Why I founded...

___________

In the Summer of 2018, I had the opportunity to intern in Shanghai, China. I knew the power of reflection and set out to find a journal to document my experiences. While with my co-founder, we discovered almost all the journals we came across looked and felt the same. There was not a journal on the market that was durable, affordable and could be used in any setting. With our newfound resources across the globe and our entrepreneurial drive, we started designing a Parch Product journal..

The Product

___________

The result of eight months of iteration is a journal that is durable enough to go with you anywhere and simplistically styled to fit in with any environment. Designed in Chapel Hill, our journal has a scratch resistant hard cover married with a heavy duty elastic band to offer customers a durable journal that they can take with them on any occasion.

The Process

___________

While the pain of poor quality journals was identified, Parch was in need of product discovery. I conducted customer discovery surveys and product development task. Also, I collaborated with my co-founder and manufacturers to make desired product through multiple iterations. I created a 13 question survey and conducted/distributed the survey to stakeholders through SMS, email and social media. In addition, I contacted and discussed with foreign journal manufacturers for product development ideas.

Mockup

From collaboration with Parch Products' Co-Founder and a journal manufacturer we designed a mockup of the product based on the results received from the surveys.

The Sample

Once we received the sample of the mockup created, we tested the journal informally with avid journal users. The feedback received was that they preferred an inner back pocket to hold scrap pieces of paper, the front logo moved up/back PARCH shrunk, smaller lines and a black colored journal. Listening to the customer, we iterated and created another prototype possessing all the feasible and beneficial suggestions.

The Current

___________

After multiple more iterations over the years, the current product is a well designed journal that mimics what the surveyed participants wanted and what customer reviews have recommended over time.
